Some of the horses you might be able to meet at this years ARC Middleham Open Day,
- Fallen Angel – Fallen Angel or ‘Angel of the North’ as she is also known is trained by Karl Burke, she is a 3 year old grey filly who holds an excellent race record in 2023, winning three and placed second once in all her starts. Her wins included the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket and the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh. She holds entries in the Newmarket Qipco 1000 Guineas Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series) and the Curragh Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas (Group 1) plus Irish Oaks and is obviously held in high regard by her trainer and owners/breeders.
- Regional – Regional is trained at the yard of Ed Bethell, he is a 6 year old gelding. He was purchased for just 3,500 Guineas in 2021 and has since gone on to win 4 races and be placed in 5, not only that but his wins include the Listed Achillies Stakes at Haydock and the Group 1 Sprint Cup Stakes at Haydock Park (British Champions Stakes) this was a first Group 1 win for trainer Ed Bethell “Genuinely, I don’t think words can describe how I’m feeling. I told myself if we finish in the first five we’ve done well. “When we won a handicap over six furlongs here two years ago I couldn’t believe it. I thought ‘I’ve done my job now, he’s won a race, maybe the owners will stick with me’. “Did I ever think he could go and do this? No. These sort of days I hope will go a long way to helping the yard achieve what I want it to.”
- Ip Up – Ip up is a six year old chestnut mare in training with Jedd O’Keefe, she has a fantastic record over hurdles having won three and been placed five times in only nine starts, an exciting mare.
- Burrows Seven – Burrows Seven might be retired from training with Jedd O’Keeffe but he is returning to Middleham to show his ‘Life Past the Post’ with New Beginnings in the main arena on Low Moor.
- Middleham Trooper – Middleham Trooper is returning to Middleham for the last time, this magnificent horse is here to say a fond farewell to his many followers before her heads of for retirement, he will be based in the yard of Neil Mechie and then take centre stage on Low Moor from 2pm.
- Giggles – Giggles lives at Neil Mechie’s training yard, a pint sized 4 year old Shetland pony who has started being educated by his young owner Willow for the backing process alongside the yards other young horses, ask them about long reining and why it is such an important part of the journey to become a racehorse.
- Cornerstone Lad – Cornerstone lad is trained by Micky Hammond, a 10 year old bay gelding, he has had a very impressive career having run in 50 races (to date) only being out of the first 4 on 11 occasions! winning 10 races in total including winning the Fighting Fifth Hurdle back in 2019.
- Sacred Angel – Sacred Angel is found in the stables of Charlie Johnston, she is a striking 3 year old grey filly, she has had a great start to her career with wins both at Newmarket’s July course and at Ascot where she won the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes by three lengths, she returned to Newmarket this time to the Rowley Mile where she was third in the Group 1 Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes, she has been an extremely consistent horse and holds entries in the domestic and Irish 1000 Guineas (Group 1) she is definitely one to look out for this season.
